Changelog
Full release history for Sidebar Buddy.
- Added: Drag a folder from Explorer onto the sidebar to bookmark it. Drop it on the empty area, on a group, or on the top or bottom edge of a bookmark to put it exactly where you want it.
- Fixed: The mouse wheel now scrolls a long sidebar when the pointer is over a bookmark.
- Fixed: Launch on startup is now reliable. The installer option and the Settings checkbox control the same startup entry, the checkbox shows off when Windows has Sidebar Buddy turned off under Startup apps, and a leftover duplicate startup entry is removed.
- Added: Drag files from Explorer straight onto a sidebar bookmark to copy or move them into that folder, without navigating there first. It works exactly like dragging inside Explorer: the same drive moves, a different drive copies, and Windows handles progress, the Replace or Skip prompt, and Ctrl+Z to undo.
- Added: A confirmation now appears before any drop larger than 1 GB, so a drop aimed at the wrong bookmark cannot quietly move a lot of data. You can change the size, turn it off, or ask to confirm every drop, in Settings - General - File Drop.
- Fixed: Explorer now updates on its own after a drop, instead of continuing to show files that had already moved until you pressed F5.
- Added: The app UI is now available in 9 languages - German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Portuguese, and Russian. Switch your language in Settings - General.
- Added: Language changes take effect instantly - no restart required.
- Fixed: The sidebar highlight now follows the folder you're actually viewing in Explorer. Previously, after clicking a folder in the sidebar, the highlight stayed put even if you browsed somewhere else inside Explorer; it now updates to match, and clears when you're in a folder that isn't in your sidebar
- Fixed: The License activation fields are now clearly labeled "Email address" and "License key," so it's obvious which goes where
- Fixed: The email field rendered too tall on the License screen
- Added: Sidebar Buddy now tells you when a new version is available - on launch and from Settings - and can download & install it in one click, with a progress bar and a Cancel button
- Fixed: "Check for Updates" no longer opens a raw file download in your browser; it now shows an in-app prompt to install the update or view what's new
- Fixed: With multiple tabs open in one Explorer window, the sidebar navigated the first tab instead of the one you were viewing - it now follows the active tab (Windows 11)
- Added: Sidebar Buddy is now available on the Microsoft Store
- Added: New FAQ entry explaining why the sidebar can appear off-screen when Explorer is maximized
- Fixed: "Already running" dialog on reboot when Windows restart-app recovery launched a second instance
- Fixed: Deleting a group with children crashed with a null path error
- Fixed: Delete-group confirmation dialog appeared behind Explorer instead of on top
- Changed: Scrollbar thumb is narrower for a cleaner look
- Fixed: Sidebar became unclickable after closing and reopening Explorer

- Fixed: "Reset Color" was wiping children's colors
